Should a Congressman (or more accurately, his fundraising committee) pay for the extra security costs of hosting the President?
This is an issue that seems to pop up again and again in northern Indiana. With President George W. Bush scheduled to appear at a fundraiser for 2nd-District Republican Chris Chocola on Thursday (2/23), it seems like a good time to honor “The Count” with his own word:
chocola (n) [chawk-Oh-la] One who advocates shifting avoidable financial burdens on to the general taxpayer.

As you may know, Indiana’s polls are among the first to close — 6pm. In an effort to make voting easier for people who actually work, State Senator Billie Breaux of Indianapolis introduced an amendment to keep the polls open until 9pm. The response of the Senate Elections Committee chairwoman, Connie Lawson:
Besides, Lawson said, by law Indiana’s bars must remain closed as long as the polls are open. Later voting hours would mean the bars would be closed longer, she said.

Lexicon entry for the day: cyify. This is one of my pet peeves. During class today, both the prof and the students were cyifying every conceivable noun. Grr.
cyify (v) [see-if-I] To unnecessarily add the -cy ending to create a noun, usually in an effort to seem more academic.
Common examples of cyification are “Normalcy” and “Relevancy.”

This gem, my new favorite word, was inspired by one of ms. newwords’ students.
infactuation. (n) [in-fackt-you-A-shun] The act of attaching seemingly irrelevant facts to an otherwise unsupportable conclusion. Often used to defend the knowledge described as “truthy”.

escalading. (v) [ess-kuh-laid-ing] (1) driving a Cadillac SUV; (2) ostentatiously driving an inferior vehicle as if it was an overpriced Cadillac SUV.
For example: “Did you see the way he was escalading down Kirkwood in that 1983 Ford Escort?

Okay. Stop. Someone needs to investigate the serious drinking problem in the Indiana Statehouse. First we can’t leave the polls open longer because we can’t go an extra hour without alcohol, and now this. While introducing a bill to re-legalize fireworks in Indiana, Rep. Thomas Weatherwax (R-Logansport)offered up this revealing tidbit:
What time does he start drinking?
